Mark Popovich is a Senior Program Officer with The Hitachi Foundation where he is responsible for the Foundation's Business and Communities Grants Program. This program focuses both on improving prospects for lower income people through investments in work and career development and supporting the Corporate Social Responsibility field. In collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, they are co-sponsoring the $16m Jobs to Career Initiative with a focus on work-based training for frontline workers across the health sector. In collaboration with the Ford and Casey Foundations, they will also help launch a $40m national fund to promote workforce development intermediaries.
Prior to entering philanthropy, Popovich served as senior staff to a state senator, governor, and congressman as well as the National Governors' Association, Council of Governors' Policy Advisors, and the National Academy for Public Administration. His experience and publications extend across the fields of energy, environment, economic development, agriculture, education, workforce development, and governmental reform.
