LET'S GIVE BACK TO NEW ORLEANS!

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Along with the excitement and enrichment offered by Workforce Innovations 2008, this year attendees have another opportunity to make the most of your visit to New Orleans. You can spend just a little time and effort to reach out to the citizens of New Orleans who have faced such devastation as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Following are several ways in which you can help through the donation of your time and labor and/or in other ways as well.

  • HANDS-ON OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteer to help rebuild New Orleans through the donation of your time, talent and brawn. Participate before or after the conference in one of two service projects -- in the areas of career services and construction. Visit Hands-On New Orleans for all the project specifics and information for signing up.

  • MORE OPPORTUNITIES
    • YOUTH BOOK DRIVE
    • Bring a book with you or purchase a book at our on-site conference book store to be donated to libraries at schools within the New Orleans Recovery School District (RSD).

      Books should be:

      • New
      • Suitable for either elementary or high school level students
      • Career oriented or other non-fiction topics of interest to students
      • Award winning or otherwise recognized fiction titles

Bring your book to the Conference Information Desk, fill out a bookplate (optional), and deposit it in the receptacle provided. The RSD students will thank you for years to come!

    • THE "LEAVE YOUR TOTE BAG BEHIND" DRIVE
    • Do you have too many tote bags at home already and don't really need another one? Or do you really love the WI 2008 bag and want to share it with local youth? Either way, consider donating your conference bag to a local youth group that will put it to good use.

Just drop off your bag at the Conference Information Desk or put it in one of the bins provided throughout the Center as you depart. We'll provide you with a "low-tech" way to get your papers back to your hotel!
