Business Leadership Day

Workforce Innovations 2007 Focuses on Business Leadership
Wednesday, July 18

Workforce Innovations 2007, the premier, annual conference for local, state, and national workforce, business, economic development, and education leaders, is proud to present Business Leadership Day for Regional Transformation - a "conference-within-a-conference" designed for you to learn how your business and community can tap into solutions to address employers' hiring and training needs. Join other employers, industry experts, association and chamber professionals, and human resources directors on July 18th for the U.S. Department of Labor's Business Leadership Day at the annual Workforce Innovations Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, July 17-19, 2007.

In partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for a Competitive Workforce, Business Leadership Day is designed for the business community to share ideas, learn how to leverage regional resources, and develop effective public/private partnerships. Business Leadership Day highlights include a Plenary Session with high-level CEOs, including Rick Stevens, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Administration, The Boeing Company, targeted Learning Labs for employers (see below), and networking opportunities designed exclusively for you. Make sure to join us for our Business Leadership Day Breakfast Wednesday morning and our International and Business Partners Reception in the evening!

Learning Labs

We have created a special series of learning labs designed to provide you with real "takeaway strategies" for engaging the public workforce system, including the local One-Stop and Workforce Investment Board, on everything from recruiting to skills training. You will also hear from leading corporate voices about how they are transforming their workforces to compete and win in the global economy. Business Leadership Day Learning Labs are divided into two tracks: An Introductory Track for employers who are new to the workforce system and/or with limited knowledge and engagement in the system, and an Advanced Track for employers with a higher level of workforce system knowledge, experience, and engagement.

  • A Workforce System Guide to Working with Employers (Introductory): Learn techniques and best practices of employer engagement in a WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) environment.
  • An Employer's Guide to the Workforce System (Introductory): Learn how the public workforce system benefits employers and how to access information and resources.
  • Building an Effective Apprenticeship Training Program - from Auto Repair to Medical Transcription (Introductory): Learn how Registered Apprenticeship works, how you can get started, and how it can help your company meet its training needs.
  • Where Will I Find My Future Workforce? (Introductory): Learn the value of and how to connect with untapped labor pools.
  • Industry Competency Models: Foundation for Talent Development (Introductory): Learn the uses of industry competency models for maximum talent development.
  • Older Workers: A Strategic Business Decision (Introductory): Learn about the value-added older workers bring to the workplace and strategies to pursue in hiring and retaining them.
  • How Does Your State Measure Up? The US Chamber of Commerce's State-by-State Report Card on Educational Effectiveness (Introductory/Advanced): Learn the criteria used to measure educational effectiveness and the findings of this state-by-state report card.
  • Career Pathways and Regional Economic Development: Five Steps to Building a Worker Pipeline (Advanced): Learn how communities have created specialized industry pipelines and how their trial and error can help guide your efforts to partnerships and success.
  • From Hunting to Gardening: Growing Businesses from Seed (Advanced): Learn how to leverage your region's research, commercial discoveries, and networks to spawn your future growth. This session is designed for all audiences.
